Human trafficking is one of the fastest growing crimes in the United States with Florida ranking third in the nation. Sadly, the average age of a victim is between 9 to 14 years old. Does this happen in Southwest Florida? Unfortunately, the answer is yes. In 2016, 31 cases were reported in Collier County and 48 cases were reported in Lee County. The Collier County Sheriff’s Office employs a full time detective and victim advocate for human trafficking. PATH2FREEDOM, Inc. is a 501(C)3 non-profit organization committed to providing essential services and support for rescued victims of human trafficking here in Collier County. Our mission is to advocate for the children and young adults in our community who have been victimized by these extreme circumstances. The victims most commonly encountered are bound by chains that cannot be seen and are controlled through physical, psychological and emotional harm. At PATH2FREEDOM, our volunteers are committed to helping victims in desperate need of rescue and restoration services to include long-term counseling, housing and support.
